Exploring British Flavours

In Hong Kong, some people like to eat oysters in hotpots during winter. But in England and Ireland, some people like to eat raw (not cooked) oysters for breakfast! They add lemon juice, pepper, or chilli sauce, but usually not soy sauce. Some people dislike them because they feel slimy.

Another famous food is the pasty. Inside a pasty, you can find meat, vegetables, and potatoes. In the past, miners took them to work for lunch. They held the thick crust with dirty hands and threw it away later to avoid getting sick.

For a traditional breakfast, British people might also eat black pudding. They often eat it with bacon, eggs, and tomatoes. You need to fry it before eating.

My friend Jessica lives in London. I received a letter from her last week. Her grandpa took her to a shop called The Princess Baker to buy a treat.

She saw many cupcakes there, like strawberry jam, cinnamon, and chocolate, but no chestnut ones. Seeing the cupcakes at The Princess Baker made her want to make cupcakes. She made a topping mixture with butter and sugar. Now, she wants to learn more recipes so that she can bake cupcakes in different flavours!
